Just Plain Goofy
The #MAHL is full of mascots, from the classic costumes of the team namesake, to quirky characters meant to entertain, there are a lot of different types of mascots. Some of the most popular mascots in the league are some of the most unique. Mascots like Crystal’s Simon the Stallion, a two person horse costume, and Buffalo’s The Fish are big fan favorites. The oldest traditional mascots in the MAHL are Tower-Soudan’s Ol’ Willie and Blaine’s Spartacus. The vast majority of mascots in the MAHL are costumes, but there are some notable exceptions. Who said a mascot has to be alive anyway? The Highland Park Flying Aces have been tied to hometown hero Charles Schulz since getting a team, in honor of Schulz the team decided to make beloved “Peanuts” character Snoopy the official mascot of the Flying Aces. Over in Mounds View, the Gunners have a mascot named Boomer, a civil war cannon painted red that fires after all Gunner goals.

Furry Friends
Another really cool aspect of the Minnesota Amateur Hockey League is live mascots. The number one type of living mascot are dogs. Across the MAHL there is an Airedale Terrier, German Pointer, Italian Greyhound, Golden Retriever, Siberian Husky, and Irish Wolfhound. Bloomington West’s “Weston” and Rosemount’s “Conrad” were the first mascots to bless the MAHL all the way back in 1972. It’s not just dogs though. Over in South Dakota there is a pair of live mascots with hooves. Brookings is home to Brutus, an American Bison, and Sioux Falls has Harry the Hog, a Hampshire Pig. These live animal mascots are a big part of the local identity, reaching a celebrity status around town. Yes, these mascots are present at home games, but during their off time all of the dogs have loving families that they live with and Brutus and Harry live on local farms most of the time.
